TRADITIONAL CHURCH FUNERAL
Honouring Religious Beliefs
The Essentials - our services, support & guidance
Please note the below price of our Funeral Director Professional Responsibility Fee—The professional fee is final and non-negotiable. This fee applies regardless of simplicity or family involvement, as legal and professional responsibility remains unchanged.
From £2,555*
Professional Funeral Care & Management Fee
The Professional Funeral Care & Management Fee reflects the responsibility I hold as your funeral director, rather than charging for individual visible actions.
Even a very simple or family-led funeral still involves full legal, professional, and logistical responsibility. When I take on a funeral, I am accountable for ensuring everything is carried out safely, legally, and with care — including being present and managing matters should anything unexpected arise.
This fee applies regardless of whether a funeral is traditional or informal, religious or non-religious, led by a celebrant or by family. While the form of the funeral may change, the level of professional responsibility does not.
-
What this fee covers
-
The Professional Funeral Care & Management Fee includes responsibility for, and provision of, the following as appropriate to the funeral:
-
Collection of the person who has died within working hours*
-
Care of the person who has died until the day of the funeral*
-
Gentle, experienced guidance from your Gentle Endings Guide / Funeral Director throughout the process, including meetings and phone support
-
Organising all legal paperwork and liaising with relevant officials
-
Washing and dressing of the person who has died where this is carried out by Gentle Endings, or support and guidance where families choose to do this themselves
-
Managing and administering third-party payments on your behalf, where applicable
-
A simple black hearse and professional driver*
-
Four professional pall-bearers to carry the coffin*
-
Your own Gentle Endings Guide / Funeral Director present and overseeing the funeral on the day
-
Design of an order of service, should this be required
-
Taking a fingerprint for memorial jewellery, if wished
-
A lock of hair, if wished
-
Collection of ashes following cremation, where applicable
-
Access to grief support resources

Some families choose to lovingly take on certain elements themselves — such as washing and dressing, flowers, leading the ceremony, or creating printed materials. These choices are deeply respected and supported. However, the funeral itself remains under my professional care and management, and the responsibility I hold does not change.

Optional elements (such as celebrancy, flowers, printing quantities, refreshments, or additional services) are itemised separately so you can shape the funeral in a way that feels right for you.

My role is to quietly hold the structure beneath the funeral — legally, practically, and emotionally — so you and your family are free to focus on being present, together.

*Working hours and standard provisions apply. Any requirements outside these (for example, extended care or out-of-hours collection) are discussed transparently in advance.

Please note:
*Does not include third party costs i.e. cost of cremation/burial, flowers, coffin etc
*The professional fee for funerals in London is from £2,888 due to the increased costs.
*Normal working hours are 9-5pm Monday - Friday. The collection of someone who has died outside of these hours will incur an added cost of £400.
*For anything over four hours an extra charge of £350 will be applied.
*For any subsequent pall-bearers an additional fee of £85 per bearer will be applied. We can not reduce the professional fee by not providing pall-bearers; even if family and friends wish to carry the coffin we always provide a full team of professional bearers to guide, assist and support.
*If the church service is followed by a cremation or burial at separate venue an additional fee will be charged. The cost will depend on requirements - prices start at £250.
* If the funeral is over two days an additional cost will be charged. The cost will depend on requirements but starts at £550.
* If the funeral is highly complex in it's requirements there will be an additional charge.

DIY/Home Funeral
Did You Know You Don't Legally Have To Use A Funeral Director In The UK?
NOT MANY PEOPLE DO!
We can support you with just the essential and logistical aspects, leaving you free to organise and create
without the input of a third party.
-
Family-led care: The family takes primary responsibility for the person who has died care, often at home.
-
Minimal professional involvement: Reducing or eliminating traditional funeral director services.
-
Personalised and flexible: Allowing for highly individualised rituals and timelines.
-
Legal compliance: Still requiring adherence to UK legal requirements for death registration and disposal.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ
What Happens After Your Initial Meeting
Following your initial consultation with a Gentle Endings Guide (Funeral Director), you will receive a clear and detailed estimate outlining the expected costs of the funeral arrangements.
Should you choose to proceed with Gentle Endings Funerals to create and support the ceremony, the following will apply:

-
Payment Terms: Full payment is required before the funeral takes place. This is because we will have already begun providing our services and will have made advance payments to third parties on your behalf (such as burial or cremation fees, celebrants, florists, and venues).
-
Paying from the Estate: In some cases, funeral costs may be recoverable from the estate of the person who has died. However, this process can take time to be administered, and funds may not be immediately available.
-
If You Need Financial Support: If you are unable to pay in full upfront, you may wish to speak to other family members or trusted friends for support. Alternatively, please visit our Finance Options page, where you will find practical information on assistance schemes and financing solutions to help you manage funeral costs with dignity and ease.
1. Deposit Requirement
A non-refundable deposit of 75% of the estimated cost must be paid at the point of the engagement of our services. Further arrangements cannot proceed without this deposit.
2. Final Payment
The remaining 25% balance is due within 24 hours of the funeral taking place.

3. Late Payment Penalties
A 2% monthly interest charge will apply to overdue amounts (compounded). A £25 administration fee will also be applied.
4. Accepted Payment Methods
Bank transfer (preferred)
Cash (by arrangement only, in person)
Not accepted: Card payments, cheques, PayPal, or other apps
5. Cancellation Policy
The 75% deposit is non-refundable, as it covers preparatory work and time already committed.
If the funeral is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled service, up to 100% of the total
estimated cost may still be charged.
6. Communication
Please notify Gentle Endings if you anticipate any difficulty meeting these payment terms, as early as possible.

Please pay via bank transfer to:
Gentle Endings Ltd Account no: 14389336 Sort code: 04-03-33
Payment Terms: Full payment is due by the agreed due date, as stated on the invoice. If payment is not received within 5 working days of this date, a late payment charge of 2% per month and a £25 administration fee may be applied.
