It’s never too soon to prepare

Planning for the future is one of the kindest gifts we can give to those we love. It brings peace of mind, prevents confusion during difficult moments, and ensures your voice is heard — even when you cannot speak for yourself.

At Gentle Endings, we know that these conversations can be hard. That’s why we’re proud to recommend Speak For Me, a trusted service that supports individuals and families in preparing their wishes with care and compassion.

What Does It Mean to Be Ready?

Being ready doesn’t mean knowing all the answers — it means taking a few small but important steps:

01.
Write Down Your Wishes

What kind of care would you want? Where would you prefer to be looked after? Are there things that matter deeply to you — music, rituals, your faith?

Recording these wishes in writing helps your loved ones honour what matters most to you.

02.
Set Up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

An LPA allows someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to do so. There are two types:

Health & Welfare

Property & Financial Affairs

This legal protection can reduce stress and protect your independence in future care decisions.

03.
Talk About It

It can feel difficult, but talking about your wishes is often a relief — for you and those around you. Starting the conversation now helps avoid conflict later and makes sure everyone understands what’s important to you.
