for People & Pets
A resting place for people and their beloved animals, where love, earth, and eternity meet.
Egerton & Hythe — For People and Pets
Where life returns gently to the earth, and love leaves a living legacy.
A Resting Place Rooted in Love and Nature
Gentle Endings Natural Burial Grounds at Egerton and Hythe offer tranquil resting places for both people and their beloved animals — sanctuaries of peace, simplicity, and regeneration.
Set amid the rolling Kent countryside, these sacred spaces invite families to return their loved ones to
the care of the earth in the most natural and tender way.
Here, life and death exist in harmony — every burial nourishes the land, restores wildlife habitat,
and contributes to ecological renewal.
What Is a Natural Burial?
A natural burial is a gentle alternative to conventional burial or cremation.
Instead of sealed coffins, concrete vaults, or chemical embalming, the focus is on natural materials,
simplicity, and respect for the earth’s cycles.

At Gentle Endings, this means:
-
Bodies are laid to rest in biodegradable shrouds or eco-coffins made from willow, bamboo, or untreated wood.
-
No embalming fluids or plastics are used, allowing the body to return naturally to the soil.
-
Graves are dug shallowly, where the microbial and mycelial life is most active, ensuring true natural decomposition.
-
Memorials are living — wildflowers, trees, or small wooden markers that blend gently into the landscape.
-
The land is managed for biodiversity, encouraging the return of pollinators, birds, and native flora.
A natural burial is not about endings, but about returning — to soil, to cycle, to source.
It is both ecological and spiritual, offering a way to honour life without harming the planet we leave behind.
For People and Pets — Together, Naturally
Gentle Endings is among the first UK burial grounds to welcome both humans and their
animal companions in shared sacred land.
We recognise the deep emotional and spiritual bonds between people and their pets,
and believe they deserve to rest within the same landscape of peace and love.

Families may choose:
-
Individual graves for people or pets
-
Family plots for people and animals together
-
Ash interments in biodegradable urns
-
Tree or wildflower memorials that restore habitat and beauty
Here, companionship continues beyond life, rooted in the soil that unites all living things.
Transparency, Ethics, and National Standards
Gentle Endings Natural Burial Grounds are proud to align with the principles of the
Association of Natural Burial Grounds (ANBG) — part of the Natural Death Centre Charity.
Both organisations uphold the highest standards of:
-
Environmental responsibility — ensuring sites are managed sustainably and respectfully.
-
Transparency — offering clear pricing, honest guidance, and openness about practices.
-
Choice and autonomy — empowering families to create ceremonies that reflect their values and beliefs.
By following these national standards, we ensure that every burial at Gentle Endings honours both
the individual and the ecosystem they return to.
Egerton & Hythe Burial Grounds
-
Egerton: A peaceful, meadowed hillside surrounded by hedgerows, oaks, and open sky — a place for quiet reflection and connection close to Ashford International, Kent.
-
Hythe: A coastal sanctuary bordered by whispering grasses and sea breezes — a landscape of light, renewal,
-
and eternal rhythm.
Both sites are being gently rewilded, creating new habitat for native species and serving as living memorial landscapes.
Every burial becomes a small act of restoration, a promise that love continues in the renewal of life.
Exciting News — Planning Permission Granted!
We are delighted to share that planning permission has now been granted for both our
Egerton and Hythe Natural Burial Grounds.
Our next steps are already underway: we’re carrying out final ecological and environmental surveys, and carefully planning the infrastructure — pathways, parking, and natural planting — to ensure every detail
reflects our values of beauty, respect, and ecological integrity.
We are working hard to open these sacred spaces as soon as possible.
If you are interested in reserving or purchasing a plot, we warmly invite you to register your interest
below, and we will get back to you with updates, opening dates, and options for early reservation.
Visiting and Planning Ahead
Families are welcome to visit by appointment to walk the land, plan a future resting place,
or simply find peace in nature’s embrace.
We also offer compassionate support in ceremonial body care, eco-funerals, and home-based farewells,
for both people and pets.
